Joharah is
devoted to the teaching of Egyptian dance as an art form as opposed to a form
of exercise. She is a prolific and driven dance artist focused on expanding the
educational and artistic horizons for Egyptian dance within her dance
community. She continually creates new ways to bring this dance form to
newcomers and new audiences throughout
the bellydance community.
She is a teacher of Egyptian dance,
choreographer, seminar producer and host, retailer of dancewear and imported
costumes and the Founder of the successful BellyUp BellyDance studios which she
launched in 2006 with locations in Oakville, Kitchener and Mississauga. She has
been recognized in Bellydance an
International Magazine along with Shimmy
Magazine where she shared the cover with her mentor and dear friend Nourhan
Sharif and is also a periodic contributing writer. Joharah was a Master Teacher at the Nile
Group Festival in Cairo, Egypt as well as at the International Bellydance
Conference of Canada and Ahlan Cairo Nights alongside other major Egyptian
teachers. Her technique and her
personable, fun way of communicating with her students is what makes her
classes and workshops successful. Joharah’s teaching is highly comprehensive
including technique, musicality, cultural awareness, costuming and stage
presence.
She has trained extensively with almost every major Egyptian
available in the dance form and has hosted a long list of Egyptian superstars
from most recently Raqia Hassan to Mohamed El Hosseny, Faten Salama, Mohamed
Shahin, Fifi Abdo, Khaled Mahmoud and Ahmed Hussien and Nourhan Sharif. Joharah has had many journeys in life. But
her ongoing journey is clearly focused on helping women access their inner
power and find empowerment though this dance form. For Joharah this is as much
a healing dance and an outlet for personal expression as it is an
ethnic/cultural dance form that has been around for generations.
